Fun Friday – Trick or Treat? I like the Trick better!

A couple of years ago I came up with this fun idea to make an actual Trick-or-Treat Game.  Tricia was kind enough to design the front so I could make all the saying for the cards.  Together we came up with this really fun game.  This is a perfect one to use in the classrooms for your Halloween Parties or even your own parties at home.  Whenever I have used this game the children always want to play it again.  It  never seems to get old. You will laugh and laugh as each child tries to do the trick involved in order to get their Treat! (The instructions to the game are on one of the cards.)

Be sure to copy the front of the game on the other side of each Trick card.  That way when you cut them out you can have a card game effect.

Tricia’s Thursdays – My Gospel Standards

This is a fun memory game that will help to

TEACH and REMIND

your primary aged children

to follow the Gospel Standards!

(We even have it in Spanish for you too!)

Our ultimate goal is for our children to always be

TEMPLE WORTHY!

By teaching these important standards by

WORD and EXAMPLE

we can know that we did our part.

My Gospel Standards Are:

I Will . . .

Follow Heavenly Father’s Plan for Me!

I Will . . .

Remember my Baptismal Covenants and Listen to the Holy Ghost.

I Will . . .

Choose the Right!  I know that when I make mistakes, I can repent.

I Will . . .

Be Honest with Heavenly Father, Myself, and Others.

I Will . . .

Use the names of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ Reverently.

I Will . . .

Do those things on the Sabbath that will help me feel close to Heavenly and Jesus Christ.

I Will . . .

Honor my parents, and do my part to strengthen my family.

I Will . . .

Keep my mind and body Sacred and Pure!  I will not partake of things that are harmful to me.

I Will . . .

Dress Modestly to show respect for Heavenly Father and Myself.

I Will . . .

Only Read and Watch things that are pleasing to Heavenly Father.

I Will . . .

Listen to music that is pleasing to Heavenly Father.

I Will . . .

Seek Good Friends and treat others kindly.

I Will . . .

Live Now to be Worthy to go to the Temple and do my part to have an Eternal Family.

To Make This Project You Will Need To:

Print the PDF

(I printed mine on Crack-n-Peel)

Cut out each of the cards.

Cut cardstock a little larger than the printed cards.

I used white cardstock, but black would also be cute.

(This will help to make the game more sterdy.)

Each cards will have a front and a back.

Attach the cards to the cardstock.

Laminate the cards and you’re ready to play!

This game is a

GREAT ADDITION

to your

Conference Kit!

We also added a poster in 8.5×11 Size and 11×17 Size that your girls can use to put up in their rooms.  The boy one will be coming soon as well!

Fun Friday – Halloween Decoration Bottles

I thought for sure Tricia had already posted this idea last Halloween, but after searching, I couldn’t find it.  She put together all these labels that were found amongst many different locations and even changed a few so they were not so evil sounding.  Here is a great idea for decorating those old used bottles for Halloween.  You can use any of your old cooking bottles, plastic or glass and create a fun way to celebrate the Halloween season.  There are a lot of different ideas out there, but the best thing about ours is it’s FREE!!  I actually searched the D.I. and yard sales to get the bottles for 25 to 50 cents each.  Be sure to do all different sizes.  You can even put Halloween candy, like eyeballs, worms, etc, in them to enhance the decor.  Add some spider webs with some spiders crawling on them and you have a positively spooky atmosphere.  As soon as I get mine decorated and put up I will add my own pictures to the post.  If you have some, email us the photos and we will add them to our post with your name under the photo.  We would love to share with others what you have done with your own bottles.

P.S. Sorry I forgot to tell you that you can print these on crack-n-peel, an Avery label that is full sheet.  Someone asked if they can be Mod Podged, but since I have never done that on glass, I am unsure as to if it’s possible or not.

(Here’s what my bottles look like, so far.)

Easy Jam Recipes – Apricot Pork Chops

Apricots and Pork Chops just naturally go together and have the best taste ever.  Here’s another easy recipe for every one to try with their homemade Apricot Jam.  Enjoy!

Apricot Pork Chops
1 Tbs. vegetable oil
4 boneless pork chops (1/2 to 1 inch thick)
1/2 cup apricot jam
1/4 cup apple cider
2 Tbs. soy sauce
1 tsp. minced fresh ginger root
2 Tbs. toasted walnuts

Heat oil in medium skillet; add pork.  Cook over medium-high heat until browned, about 3  minutes.  Turn; brown second side.  meanwhile, combine jam, cider, soy sauce and ginger root.  Mix well.  Stir in toasted walnuts.  Pour sauce over pork chops; reduce heat to low.  Cover; simmer about 10 mins. or until tender, turning once.  Remove pork; keep warm.  Boil sauce until it thickens slightly. Serve sauce over pork. Makes 4 servings.

Family Fun – General Conference Bingo part 2

Last April I shared with you some Bingo cards I made for General Conference and promised you the rest of the cards for this Conference.  I didn’t forget my promise to all of you and here they are at last.  Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!!!!  My children LOVED these and we even got a black out on one of them.  Please remember that these took close to 100 hours of work to make and I would love for you to share them with your friends and family, but please give them our blog address instead of pasting, copying, or otherwise taking credit for them. I love sharing with you all and appreciate your comments last time I did this.  It makes me feel like making more things when I know it’s appreciated by all.  Print and laminate them now so you are all ready when Conference comes next month!!

Conversation Cards – Love & Relationships

This was a fun one to do and I even like my design of the card.  This would be a good topic for your date nights or even to get to know a family member, friend, or your parents better.  Enjoy!

Conversation Cards – Houses & Architecture

I know I have been forgetting to post my conversation cards, so I have decided to fix that problem.  This week talks about Houses and Architecture.  I thought some of these questions were quite good and could bring about some good conversations.  Enjoy!

FHE – Family Council

I hope you are having a fabulous holiday weekend!  August was a little crazy for us.  Getting ready for school, back to school night, and starting school (and all that comes with that!) has been very busy.  I hope you and your kids are back into the swing of things at your house.  Now is a great time to start Family Council back up if you have let it go for the summer like we have. :)  With hectic schedules starting back up it is important for everyone in the family to be on the same page.  I’m finding with our sports, activities, school and homework we are needing to set some ground rules!

I am attaching Family Council Sheets for you to use as a reference for your family council meetings.  Begin by setting rules for your family council.  Let everyone know this is their BIG chance to participate in making decisions, setting the schedule and having a say in what your family does.  Each family member should feel important and like they have a voice at family council.  This is also a great time to set some goals for the month.  I suggest having family council AT LEAST once a month.  Having a calendar session every Monday before you begin family home evening could also be very helpful in keeping everyone on track.  You can also hold family council on Sunday if that works better for your family.

Always begin and end family council with a prayer.  The first Monday of every month could be designated Family Council night.  You may want to add a spiritual thought or family activity as well.  Even just having a game night following the meeting will bring your family closer together.  When having family council take the opportunity to teach your children.  Concerns may come up that will be a great teaching opportunity.  Don’t miss out on these.  Make sure you take the opportunity to praise your family for good things that have happened since the last family council.  Give everyone the opportunity to share their thoughts and feelings on what is good about your family and what is working.   Set goals and follow through.  Family council can be a very powerful teaching tool.  It is a great opportunity to share your testimonies, to be positive with your children (sometimes I feel like all I do is nag!), and to set some goals for improvement.  Family Council is a great place for your family to reconnect.  Life is so busy make the most out of Monday nights!

Fun Friday – Birthday Coupons

Yes, I think I am the coupon queen when it comes to holidays and birthdays.  I just LOVE giving them out for people to use.  So when I came up with the Father’s Day and Mother’s Day coupons, I thought, why not birthdays?  My children love their birthday wall of fame, but they love the coupons even more.  Every year they take those off first.  This year, I didn’t put them up and what happened?  The first thing they asked me was, where’s my coupons?  It made me laugh and feel good at the same time that they see it as a tradition.  So here they are, use them, and enjoy them.
